Tim Nolan, VATE (Adelaide 2016): The mood and activity was invigorating; Adelaide was awash with English teaching professionals from around the world, and the environment was one of genuine collaboration and sharing. Learning at conferences such as the AATE/ALEA National Conference is never wholly within the confines of the lecture halls and workshop rooms; learning surpasses the official walls and seeps through all the spaces where people come together. Some conversations, as simple as they are next to the coffee machine or waiting outside a presentation room, are just as inspirational as those delivered by the impressive calibre of academics from across the globe. And the social gatherings, ranging from the breakfasts to the Conference Dinner, always encourage one to dialogue with others about who you are and what you stand for.
